解疑 | Questions Answered
在《贤愚经》或《本师传》等经论中,时常有描述帝释天为了考察释迦牟尼佛的发心,在4 i. z  M; k* g
其行布施时作大违缘的情节。有人对此表示疑惑,为何帝释天要如此为难释迦牟尼佛呢?5 h9 @$ ~* Z3 }$ I' q
In The Sutra of the Wise and the Fool, the Great Biography of Buddha Shakyamuni, or other( b+ \  H$ F$ ?0 S! [% ]
scriptures, there are many stories about how the god Indra, in order to test the sincerity of
1 ?( o! \2 K3 W' x& IBuddha’s aspiration, purposely created havoc while the Buddha was practicing the paramita of
6 v, o% s2 M. [. D# @$ ~generosity. It puzzles many people: Why should Indra make so much trouble for the Buddha?8 }% @$ y" g" I# p) D: d6 F7 {
其实,这是因帝释天的发愿力所致,在释迦牟尼佛初行菩萨道时,为了释迦牟尼佛能迅速: z- I0 d; _3 w: k) Q
圆满资粮,帝释天与提婆达多一样发愿成为佛陀布施忍辱的殊胜对境。因布施其他东西相
( c- a: M' w& a! |对而言比较容易做到,但布施身体的却寥若晨星。如果不如此示现,世人也难以了知佛陀1 u" R  d# S) O8 \9 {
的伟大之处。4 n" `! B: X6 C  D( r& a6 {
As a matter of fact, this came about as a result of Indra’s power of aspiration. When the Buddha+ Q2 d$ W# z4 b- Q: |+ V1 M& J: j
was on the Bodhisattva path, Indra, like Devadatta, made vows to help the Buddha accumulate7 k5 B( g7 M8 v/ q; L% L
merits swiftly. To do so they manifested in various forms toward which the Buddha would
8 a7 ~" P7 c2 z: t$ B- cpractice his patience or make body offerings. The deed of offering one’s own body, unlike a) r% M# u6 ^0 g/ d3 o2 f! ]$ `
material offering that is relatively easy, has been achieved only as rarely as one sees stars in the7 E7 S' j- l0 b/ M  X
daytime. However, without such a dramatic offering on the part of the Buddha, worldly people1 \- Q6 C  Y/ W) w* D7 O* ?
would not come to appreciate his extraordinary qualities.
! p) p& G  F! M! J$ j3 ?又有人提出,为何佛陀时常在行布施时,为了圆满资粮,而将妻子、儿女布施与吃人罗刹
6 \) H8 K3 q0 J( e$ y,这样是否危害了其他众生呢?
4 S- v5 @; w) }Others raise the question: The Buddha often offered his own wife and children to flesh-eating
! \0 [4 j0 d5 f, Q' D, X8 |rakshas in order to perfect the accumulation of merit. Aren’t such acts harmful to other beings?
4 b) E( G  H5 z! v; b) ~首先,佛陀的这一做法,只会圆满妻子、儿女的资粮,而不会对其造成伤害。其次,这一: j: ~! U4 ^9 x
做法的发心非为自利,而是为了早日成佛,挽救处于水深火热之中的广大有情,没有丝毫7 ~- w2 O4 I2 Q7 K  e
的自私自利心。《入菩萨行论》中说:“经说行施时,可舍微细戒。”又说:“勿因小失4 T" ^2 w* A' b8 N% P3 V4 x
大,大处思利他。”在具有殊胜发心的前提下,可以开许身语之不善业,《观察三增上品: _( V# F! U: q% u8 Z" S
》中云:“于大菩萨开许七种不善。”《大密方便经》中也有类似教证。& \, Y0 M1 }: h: L; a  Z$ r% I
To begin with, the Buddha’s activity could only bring tremendous merit to his wife and children;6 f3 p) j: F) ]- L/ Z
there was no harm to them. Furthermore, his motivation was not in self-interest. It was wishing
; i( x+ w+ a) K& ^$ L: U0 a! t/ o9 Hfor swift enlightenment in order to liberate multitudes of beings from dire suffering. There was
0 T. U: B: U8 C+ Dneither a single trace of selfishness nor the tiniest bit of self-serving. A Guide to Bodhisattva’s
1 P6 p# n; h9 U. k. N! j7 D" q: RWay of Life says: “For it is taught that in times of generosity, the rules of discipline may be
2 ?8 Z" c! _' C0 k! L' @suspended,” and: “The great should not be supplanted by the less, and it is others’ good that is. ~3 {: u0 R8 l" u: P, B- }2 j8 G- u( K
the highest goal.” Hence there are times a Bodhisattva is permitted to actually commit harmful
# s- j4 R  |3 y8 \acts of body and speech, provided the intention is pure bodhichitta. The Chapter on the Three' D: {9 ]" Z; Y9 z- h1 c7 Y
Increasing Activities says: “The Bodhisattvas are permitted to commit the seven harmful
& z, u7 G4 k5 |  E2 Dactions.” Similar teachings can be found in The Sutra of Great Secret Skills.2 e. f! X! D# |2 x& M: m, A
为了更多众生的利益,大悲商主为令其从无边轮回中得解脱,可杀短矛黑人;乐行童子为
$ `) i) l4 o- H) k' A4 p. n! c避免他人因贪己而死,可行不净行。所以,发心极其重要。如果没有清净的发心,表面行& }: P, v# ^% i  e
持善法,恰如缘木求鱼。" r! R1 }8 ]+ c5 W) z
The story of Captain Great Compassionate Heart tells how the Captain killed the Black Spearman8 q. d+ R, E" \# ^4 B1 V
in order to save him from incalculable sufferings in samsara and, at the same time, to benefit4 P; U8 e/ t6 m$ k. h
many other beings. Brahmin Lover of the Stars, to save a maiden madly in love with him from
# D* q, |8 g+ B! n# b# D) W" Fkilling herself, broke his vow of chastity. Therefore, the most crucial point is the motivation.
% |1 t3 g1 q) pDoing good deeds superficially without pure motivation is like climbing a tree to catch a fish., z$ \& J$ M; R
