钱财 | On Money8 f+ f. W0 I  G- G7 W- g  X

! N; P7 o/ H8 W* K* c. }, w) h$ ~城市里的人们,脸上都挂着疲倦和痛苦的表情。究竟为什么会这样呢?经过我的详细观察8 w" g' r3 s' F5 E% h& E0 c
; o' }1 K0 p( t+ b+ L
,发现大多是因为钱财。
. _+ e. e; S9 X: ^* x5 B

+ K& U; ^$ @7 {! v# O/ y# lCity dwellers usually wear a look of weariness and worry. Why is that so? After my careful( l, V9 v! y1 \( J4 o
) ?( `, g- j0 h( t% R. ?+ P
observation, I find money issues are largely to blame.* k3 W/ Z2 C1 U1 I' c* t: \

* |5 x" u- X2 ?: o, {$ K2 f众生赖以生存的这付臭皮囊,如果不幸降临于都市,就时刻需要钱财的支撑,否则就会轰
! n' v) J  M+ m* c: ~  e3 ?. p5 T
4 T9 K6 H7 ]: ~9 O3 ~% I然坍塌。也许有的人会说:“不可能吧?”但在都市里,你会处处感觉到钱财的重要性。
- _) D: j; v- U
+ \, h; n( v$ E6 D无论吃饭、穿衣、看病、睡觉,甚至上厕所,也离不开钱。真的应了那句话:“钱不是万( f. p) T3 @9 I8 R. o9 [
* i" X0 [8 a& H" F( J5 t, t, N
能的,但没有钱是万万不能的。”

6 g( Y: b& r6 v6 b. _0 P& g  Z% D4 ]3 s$ A2 o% M" S: F
This sack of flesh and bones that we humans survive in, if it fatefully lands in a city, will need the4 ]: W+ Y" I' ^) g6 ~+ Y

' y/ J4 J9 ~4 @1 z; d/ Z# @constant support of money. Otherwise, it will fall with a thump. Some of you may argue: “That’s: b3 n3 F- \5 C  [
+ d( d. j1 V% B/ b
not quite possible!” But in the city, one is forced to be keenly aware of the power of money. Any
0 ]3 l/ |2 v! s
0 s- T7 D% x* }4 C1 g  e5 ?, B6 Xactivity—be it eating, buying clothes, and seeing the doctor, sleeping, even going to the
. T# I# g& Q1 ^0 g: h2 f. T8 I
9 Y, @6 c  Z: Z* utoilet—calls for money. It is exactly how the saying goes: “Money is not almighty, but without1 R1 h4 h- H0 E; I/ ^2 f" n
+ ]4 O' S. ]/ \- a  m4 \
money nothing can be done.”
; g; V- V' G/ z; i9 z3 K% G# a' Z. c4 b+ s
没有钱,都市人的一切生存活动都不得不停滞。为了五蕴所构建的这部机器能正常运转,
7 a/ M+ @. r9 H1 l: ]1 j) u5 o( X: M7 r! n- y; Y
人不得不像奴仆一样,为这部机器的能源——钱财而搏斗。我时常在想,如果人能像蚯蚓
8 C; N7 h  J6 H( z& o" w( A3 ?: Z. v( G; H3 A
一样吃土也能生存该多好啊!但现实无情地告诉我,城市人要寻求生存的因是异常困难的& {; a8 @" z5 c. Q6 t

1 y- ]: u% g0 S0 b

# s$ e1 b: C  Q/ u- F7 }( i; `
4 n3 ]* o% _- L# p/ @4 @; @2 S& }) |With no money, all living activities in the city have to come to a halt. In order to have our body
+ j; j6 G, P! y% H; w5 Q. [0 C" B9 l5 [
machine, the composite of five aggregates, function normally; humans have to struggle like4 s1 {" p3 j& z+ I) X9 T4 m" J

/ y+ M4 x6 l" \  islaves to garner the source of its fuel—money. I often think, wouldn’t it be wonderful if humans* z' Z8 O/ z. p# J9 F
( q5 {5 W& _3 v1 g
could survive just by imbibing soil like the earthworm! But cruel reality tells me otherwise: for

( r: r: a& D$ M5 Zpeople living in the city, the provisions to survive are by no means easy to come by.
" N: S: d2 \5 ^9 K7 X9 ^& W, T8 h- R( I
所以,城市的人只有忙忙碌碌。不论他是谁,都会感受为钱财奔波而带来的痛苦。以前以& f0 v( {) v4 H
) k: N* i8 G2 ~& T0 F9 n
为城市人过着天人一般的日子,现在方知,他们更是备受煎熬啊!这一切,令我想起山里
: w. ?& _3 m/ F- ~3 v- j
' ~$ c' Y3 U7 g- F9 ?( x- T的修行人。在山里,除了食物,不需要为更多的事操心,生存的因自然具足。同样是10007 _; c. ?9 B* }6 l6 e
. i9 x8 D# u% r1 U: G5 E
元,在山里,就是腰板挺直的大富翁;然而在城市里,却有捉襟见肘、相形见绌的感觉。

3 @  r+ M% H' p) x  G4 D; ]; M
Consequently, city folks are reduced to being always on the run. The anguish of having to work
( J% i0 i3 Q6 n2 T9 r* C9 _3 T# S
3 n; R7 u2 Q# rhard for money is felt by practically everyone. Previously I had the illusion that people in the city) |8 k& B* C# \- V1 x
) g; v  d- a! B& [# ]0 [
live like celestial beings; only now do I come to see the extra agony they have to endure. This) S* l- K, |" ?+ h+ y" s3 ]
9 a3 m* Q* A# U' f1 ~8 u
reminds me of those spiritual seekers deep in the mountains where the environment is naturally+ E+ Y& A0 H# C1 e6 \( p

9 y( b' ]  V) U7 Q9 m6 c0 {conducive to survival. Other than food, there are not too many things to worry about, and a! B  s8 \' _% u) r- f
0 p: e7 @, c# u5 Y/ p
person with 1,000 yuan can stand tall and be considered a rich person. While in the city, the, J) P; _4 @4 j7 M4 H+ W

; y7 V* m& l- f! t7 W" |same amount of money won’t go too far; one is unable to make ends meet and will feel a sense
% v/ e" P% T0 l7 ~8 n8 a4 A- i7 I# j  p* d7 Z0 ^5 f& F5 C
of inferiority.

/ g/ n$ s/ g* R- Y3 S" ]作为修行人,就是应当以积累圣者七财为荣,积累世间钱财为耻,视清贫为最好的伴侣。6 T9 v5 W& K* Q5 X" p. C- ], B

- |6 k: i0 ?3 ~3 ^/ C  c  S噶当派大德们最推崇的教言就是:

6 `- X6 s" b8 G1 uA spiritual seeker should be defined as one who is proud of accruing the seven noble riches, who

& K! v6 C& V. b: p4 p* @is ashamed of amassing worldly possessions, and who regards poverty as a dear companion. The
4 v9 x# ~: ?; [5 m8 ?
9 j  S4 V/ A4 R2 D5 o$ j' b$ D5 Mmost celebrated teaching among the Kadampa masters is:
% v0 l; J. w* v* a
4 ?# k# p2 g$ j! o( U3 P“心依于法,法依于贫,贫依于死,死依于壑。”

; J7 ]9 R7 ^' O  Q: @) ~0 {8 X( I5 ]0 ?4 A
Base your mind on the Dharma,% H' r3 R7 E5 f
6 p6 L! `8 S" n
Base your Dharma on a humble life,
7 u: m7 x9 m5 [& x- j0 e6 B1 j$ l
Base your humble life on the thought of death,& p. N2 \- o5 }6 |7 X! Q  v& \
: Y& D% B; R8 H
Base your death on a lonely cave." T3 q2 C- x7 @% F3 [1 t

3 v/ D: Q5 j; ~- ?1 w. t富贵荣华足以使人痴迷,而贫贱却足以使人睿智。

Wealth and power make one obsessive and indulgent, while poverty and humility impart to one% p  ?- @8 l. G: e0 }- I
0 ], b5 m* h. L- x2 z# }; S

汉地也有“一等和尚轻飘飘,二等和尚一大包,三等和尚压弯了腰”的说法

& n$ G( ?" u8 v8 R! P5 A' u, M# {+ ~There is also a saying in the Han area: “The monk of the highest caliber is light and at ease, the

一位藏地的大德,在英国作学者期间,每月发工资前,就将上月的节余全部布施,自己却

& z; z8 M+ ?, v& n4 N穿着破旧的衣衫。很多慕名而去拜见他的人,都难以将眼前这个外表寒碜的人,与修证圆

$ t' V2 f/ q3 r7 r满、学富五车的藏地著名大成就者的名称联系在一起。这种行为,实在令人赞叹。

himself only old ragged clothes. When visitors sought him out with admiration, they found it" `) F" f" S  D: d- O+ P

! F: B, n4 C7 x- X. {1 U1 D- O, D( ^4 `* Jhard to match the humble, scrubby person they saw with the famous Tibetan siddha of perfect& A1 D. T; ~! \

learning and accomplishment. His conduct deserves our highest praise.

- t0 s6 F. L; Q6 i8 ?无数的大德们都为我们做出了表率,我们实应心无旁骛地依止于贫穷。
