How reluctant am I to touch upon this subject! But “to leave the monastic order” presents a

# {3 F+ h' {; d6 T; ocruel reality we must face in the current time of five degenerations. Instead of dodging the issue,9 ~( f8 W0 Z/ P) n
+ Y" E/ \! L. `" j3 @I may as well look at it squarely and bravely.

8 |( @& P R# w9 v% D1 P$ u/ J今天，听到一位出家十几年的人，为烦恼所缠，已还俗好几个月了。听到这个消息，心里

" h4 x5 z( z; j' P像吃了一只苍蝇般不是滋味。记得在他出家初期，也可算得上是闻思精进、戒律清净、智0 e; F. G$ F8 z* r
% E. P4 L( {& a: v0 h9 Q
慧日益增上的典范。他曾说过：“我只要活一天，决不还俗。让我还俗，还不如死掉。”3 S N- s+ f+ a" n2 y
* M* M9 H. l# K4 n# F; R
这样一位下了很大决心的人，却食言还俗，十分令人痛心。

+ p6 E( g3 H! _# Z5 H, K' ^6 rA few months ago a monk, beset by afflictions, declared to renounce his monastic life of more# g- f, _. ~ F/ q, G7 x

than 10 years. When I heard this news today, I got quite upset as if I had swallowed a fly. I recall
$ [4 u$ s' t- {9 B) k, h( E9 r( W
) Y, Y( j# v2 x6 x: S P) J' D# ?early on, his ordained peers had regarded him as a model by his diligent study and keeping pure0 V- ~* f4 d- t( e' E' }
" o, H8 V/ }- @( g, z; o' Pprecepts. Once he asserted: “As long as I am alive, I will never leave the monastic order even for5 |6 k8 |2 D8 B' J; t5 {9 A
$ x3 K9 P- c) [3 F, r. fone day. For me, returning to the worldly life is worse than dying.” A person who proclaimed his8 ?) @ h6 C6 b; ?+ _
5 m& M9 W+ l& {* Ifaith with such strong determination still ended up eating his own words and repealed his vow.) G1 z/ P$ C# E* w" ^( `% {3 @
! G7 h6 O4 @! z( |How can I not feel sick at heart!& P( M4 O: C( D! G' Y
& e5 P2 g# I( F5 _ B2 i5 i
他在电话中闭口不谈佛法，却无休止地言及他的生意。当问到他生意如何时，他像饱含 了; O) Q2 }( E& h% E, Z

一大堆苦水，忙不迭地向我倾倒：“如今的生意太难做了！每天8小时，却挣不到十元钱。& O/ y- H" M9 x9 k6 `

想起以前出家时无忧无虑的生活，真像在天堂一样啊！唉！！”听了他的苦恼，我真不知

$ ]5 L5 I$ Z" t" e% \该如何应答。
% y {7 ]% x/ e: R5 x0 M$ ~6 N2 { ^8 P% L6 k- C! x+ J
Over the phone, he veered away from discussing the Dharma, but instead tattled endlessly about+ O& N, M: E b+ ]/ v
9 L( j0 L4 l" k# h
his business. When I asked how it was going, he started to pour out to me his pent-up miseries:

; l: P4 Z9 {& S3 D7 }( o1 x“You know, it’s so difficult to do business these days! My hard labor of eight hours daily earns me+ c5 ]3 Y, s! G6 G2 E2 X- J
) F3 e; F7 W. O& [: D. R( _less than 10 yuan. The ordained life at the monastery, as I recall now, was so peaceful and worry-
9 t5 s0 L( F( {# D; H; P$ n. W. Q K
free, almost like living in heaven! Alas!!” Hearing his complaints, I have no idea how to respond.# Z, M# U4 y0 a& M3 \0 I$ C6 }
' C+ E5 T4 M' T+ g" E$ ^不过令我庆幸的是，他的见解至今尚未改变，对三宝的信心也没有退减，忏悔心恒时不离2 W! N4 j7 d; }+ M3 i* U0 `
1 d* Q$ P |+ x. q- O
左右。虽忙于生意，却不离念诵。# u3 {- h, |4 _4 j }8 d! k' {5 A! [
: y4 l6 O2 @& X2 p. ?But there is some consolation for me: He is still holding onto his views and his faith in the Three/ l5 V) S# q9 O6 _) D

remembers to recite mantras while busy with his shop.

别人是错误的，他的身体虽然还俗了，心却没有还俗。”

正见。”如果见解毁坏，不行忏悔，反而责怪上师三宝，即使身体没有还俗，其内心却已

Four Hundred Verses of Madhyamaka, it says: “One would rather transgress edicts than abandon3 M; e6 F! i, l0 a2 P
( h9 X/ r4 N! p8 w/ cthe right view.” If a person has ruined his right view but, instead of confessing sincerely, he, O) p7 F4 ]) g/ M* j/ A
E8 k# G0 M' t2 E3 U' xpoints the finger at the guru or the Three Jewels, then this person’s mind is incurably corrupt,! @) c4 ~. E/ C2 q9 N
% K/ o' G, p4 K8 ^) D( Teven though his body has not returned to the secular world.1 ?1 ~% D) x- z; F
