枇杷 | Loquat Fruit

厄尔尼诺现象使仲春的天气如同盛夏,天气异常闷热。

. p/ k& q& M2 E$ b  @1 L" T% D0 b" G' i. j. O
Due to the El Niño effect, the spring weather has turned out to be very hot and humid, almost

9 M' R- I9 L7 k4 s8 K忽见街上一人肩负竹篓,里面装满金黄的果实,在几片叶子的衬托下,晶莹饱满,令人垂9 P$ g6 ^! r# C

+ f  _( a, D: R3 T$ s5 B$ P涎欲滴。从未见过如此之物,向人讨教,方知是枇杷。剥开一颗,放之嘴里,清凉鲜美的

1 k5 D# S6 d. W5 I汁液溢满口腔。如此美妙之果莫非是天人享用之物?一番讨价还价之后,以不菲的价格换
) ^6 \" u: C! D' K% b
/ u1 D6 G6 @7 ]得几十余颗。赶快捧回家,作为佐书之“菜”。
( a) Q' e3 \8 h1 k! q- c3 \
$ A2 s! @2 b  y  A; k: G
On the street, I caught sight of a vendor carrying a basketful of golden fruit. Embellished with

green leaves, the fruit looked so juicy and fresh, making one’s mouth water. I had never seen& |( I# q. ^+ Z* Z% n" }, u

anything like it, and learned after inquiring that they are called loquats. I peeled one open and  c# h$ x: W0 X7 v

/ Q) ^) Q# O% J+ f$ tput it in my mouth. A refreshing and delicious juice filled my mouth—yum! Such tasty fruit must
. d3 G* Q+ e+ A0 X9 z  b2 c
& M# V9 Q! l( i6 |be the treat of the god realm! After a little bargaining, I brought dozens at quite a steep price- ^4 B8 d& Y; A; h% O. ~  I* m

( |$ w- {9 ^- \' i7 zand hurried home with them, thinking to savor them with my readings.
1 n4 a+ Q) L, I% C- a- `$ ]- J6 j- X) _1 J& v
翻开《白莲花论》,书中曰:“世上有谁能永享快乐?又有谁会永远受苦?未曾感受痛苦" B5 g' M' W; g: C# p$ d2 L6 g" C
) b4 c" C5 b0 ?! f, d+ O
的人有多少?得到快乐永远享受的又有几人?”的确,在漫长的人生道路中,既会有快乐, X6 q1 x# ?4 E5 O

& m5 R8 M) w- @- o8 V: E,也不乏痛苦。无论何种身份,皆会尝尽酸甜苦辣。只有胜不骄,败不馁,坦然面对人生% _# e3 ^( B/ l: ?# Z

) A5 e8 ]0 E! h( u' `' g1 f百味,方为具智之人。法国哲学家拉罗申福科说过:“幸福后面是灾祸,灾祸后面是幸福
8 ]$ A% b6 Q7 J/ ?4 Q$ g
: W7 c8 y( Z& H: ]0 d。”古代也有“福兮祸所伏,祸兮福所倚”的说法。

# }; X. D2 q( Z5 w" ?) V! r/ L0 F
Turning the pages of the Great Biography of Buddha Shakyamuni, the White Lotus, I read this:8 \6 _+ [% Y0 [" J! C* q( c2 \

; [) }; N& v/ L# {“How many people in the world will enjoy everlasting happiness? How many people in the world& _* y1 W$ U+ }5 v

: X/ x0 x  |* A. Q$ wwill suffer endless miseries? How many have never experienced suffering? After attaining
* G# @7 M2 T4 |$ p# r3 f
. P; c1 z5 K& r+ G9 chappiness, how many have enjoyed it forever?” Indeed, throughout the journey of life, there will& R" f0 u( }( @! `4 U
4 L% F: Y! X: m! L% ]
be happiness, but suffering will be there as well. Whatever one’s identity is, one is bound to taste0 X# N  b  ^' v" ]- V4 P% V

# k! d0 b' Y' R: M8 b  Kthe assorted bitter sweetness of life. A person of wisdom therefore must meet life’s vicissitudes
1 p7 z% \. f9 F9 `$ y$ w5 o
$ n* k! v$ \- @" ?calmly: neither becoming arrogant with success nor discouraged by failure. The French$ ]( x0 ?8 ]+ r0 |; i) [
* R- I* C4 {! O# e
philosopher La Rochefoucauld says that the happiness and misery of men depend no less on5 Y% K  J) B$ q  S0 ]

& Z) Y' f6 ]$ e$ n. v* ?temper than fortune, mirroring this ancient saying:
: o. n/ B/ s% Y$ B8 L' c0 ]2 W7 p% ]
Misfortune, that is where happiness depends;
- z! I5 J2 @, b# [% B& |7 X" Q3 M$ \9 n) _; q4 {
Happiness, that is where misfortune underlies.

可见一切都是相对,一切都是无常的。0 v6 M% c( W7 V: u7 \

Therefore, whenever we are seized with intense emotion of pleasure or pain in a happy or sad

; ~4 s* ~, ]2 p) {; F# Ymoment, we should look squarely at its essence. This is the most crucial, most powerful way of$ |& e* {. H9 W9 e3 X2 N

想着想着,不知不觉忘了吃枇杷的事。但我在书里尝到了比枇杷更鲜美的滋味。这才是世
, i  Q9 l& S: C1 H1 S+ P0 d  P/ O, H9 B! k# J; R; Z, f
上最鲜美的枇杷,且经久不腐,即使历经百年、千年,也可永久享用。
